Traditional negative pressure wound therapy (tNPWT) is a clinically effective and widely adopted therapy for challenging wounds. But tNPWT may not be warranted for wounds with less exudate. For these wounds, single-use negative pressure wound therapy (sNPWT) can bring the benefits of NPWT – even performing better than tNPWT in certain cases – while offering a design shown to result in greater patient satisfaction.
In fact, a randomized, controlled, multicenter study conducted at 16 centers in the US and two centers in Canada found that PICO sNPWT significantly reduced wound area, depth and volume compared with traditional negative pressure wound therapy in patients with VLUs and DFUs; additionally, complete closure of lower extremity ulcers at 12 weeks was more frequent with PICO sNPWT than with tNPWT.
