Incisional NPWT: Meet the device with evidence on its side

Surgical site infections (SSIs) can result after a wide range of surgeries, including women’s surgical procedures. There are multiple single use NPWT devices indicated for closed surgical incisions on the market, with many clinical studies examining their efficacy. But when you compare these studies, one device rises to the top: the PICO◊ Single Use Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System (sNPWT).

Looking at several studies on the effect of prophylactic incisional NPWT versus standard dressings in C-section patients with a BMI of 30 or greater, competitor devices demonstrated that the risk of SSIs was not significantly different between groups.

On the other hand, PICO sNPWT has shown a 50% SSI risk reduction versus standard care, along with reductions in wound seroma, dehiscence and overall complications. PICO sNPWT has multiple unique mechanisms of action that may help promote incisional wound healing – and improve patient outcomes.
