Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has wide clinical adoption, but logistical challenges can complicate its delivery and create financial and operational inefficiencies in the acute setting. To help address this, a consensus panel of eight experts from Canada, Spain, the UK and the US on the use of NPWT in acute and chronic wounds was convened to provide insights on which type of NPWT to use and when.
To help clinicians streamline how they deliver NPWT, the panel developed a practical decision-making tool to help guide the appropriate use of traditional NPWT and single-use NPWT. The guidelines consider operational and financial factors as well as clinical outcomes, providing evidence-based guidance on which type of system to utilize for different wound types and patient profiles.
