Utilities are now in a constant mode of evolution, and their cybersecurity requirements evolve at a similar pace. External factors such as distributed energy resources, pressure to adopt cleaner energy, and policies that encourage conservation demand changes to how electric grids operate. The cybersecurity needed in this evolving world is increasingly complex and increasingly pervasive throughout the organization.
UTC undertook this Cybersecurity Study to understand the current state of cybersecurity among our 400 member utilities. This study is based upon responses to a Utility Cybersecurity Survey administered by UTC to its member utilities. The survey respondents vary in size from some of the largest investor-owned utilities in the country, down to small electric distribution cooperatives. The study represents a broad range of perspectives on operational security at utilities.
